Safety and Security: Campus Welcome Center and Infrastructure Improvements
We plan a number of important infrastructure improvements that will enhance the safety and security of the entire Landon community, improve the student and visitor experience, and beautify the campus. First, we will move roadways to the perimeter of the campus, allowing for the creation of an academic quad and pedestrian-friendly core of the campus – a continuous, vehicle-free area where the boys spend most of their academic day. In addition, a new welcome center closer to Wilson Lane will guide visitors and facilitate vehicle traffic. At the front entrance, we will install new fencing and landscaping to improve the aesthetic view from inside and outside campus and to provide a higher level of security.
New Upper School Building
To address the pressing need for additional and updated space, Landon will build a new Upper School facility that better serves our mission and our ambitions for Landon’s oldest students.
Our Upper School will be moving into a brand
new, state-of-the-art building, Boehly Upper School. Our oldest students will enjoy inspiring spaces such as a central, skylit common area designed for presentations and lectures as well as studying and socializing together. The Brooke and Rosemary Seawell STEM Center will have modern science and engineering labs will be arranged around a science forum that engages all in learning and innovation.
The new building will be located in a prominent position at the center of campus, offering impressive views from the Wilson Lane entrance and overlooking our rolling fields, athletic facilities, and the newly created academic quad. It will represent the best of Landon – at once respectful of the past and receptive to the future.
Renovated Spaces for Lower and Middle School
Our Middle School will move into the Banfield
Academic Center (BAC), the current Upper School,
which will undergo a comprehensive modernization
with all-new systems and finishes. Updated technology and classroom layouts will promote greater collaboration and learning. The reimagined courtyard will create a massive new educational and gathering space. New entries and mechanical systems will provide an improved approach to heating, cooling, and environmental stewardship.
The Lower School will move into the current Middle School building which will be named the Freeman Family Lower School. Our youngest Bears will have more room and resources to explore, create, and collaborate, and will enjoy a greater sense of connection with the Landon community as the Lower School takes its place in our central academic core.

Future Home of the Middle School
Our Middle School will move into the Banfield Academic Center (BAC), the current Upper School, which will undergo a comprehensive modernization with all-new systems and finishes. The courtyard will become an outdoor gathering space to foster interconnectivity among students, and updated technology and classroom layouts will promote greater collaboration and learning.
Future Home of the Lower School - Freeman Family Lower School
Moving the Lower School into the more centrally located Middle School Building will give our Lower School students a greater sense of community and additional opportunities for mentorship from the older boys at the school. Students will have more room and resources to explore, create, and collaborate, including a new skylit central atrium.
Future Home of Landon’s Visual Arts Center
The Wilson Building will be renovated to serve as our new visual arts center for the campus. A woodshop, sculpture and painting studios, and exhibit galleries will give our students expanded space to imagine and create.
