Bill ’92 and Kary Magruder Support The Campaign for Landon

Please join us in thanking Bill ’92 and Kary Magruder for their generous commitment to The Campaign for Landon. Their gift supports the current campus transformation and ongoing operating needs.

Bill helped establish The Magruder Companies, a residential and commercial real estate business, with his family. He credits much of his success to the lessons he took from Landon: “We truly learned the meaning of hard work and all the expectations that come with that. I still reference the School’s Honor Code. It’s more than a disciplinary measure; it’s a lesson on how to live your life.”

Having served on the Landon Alumni Board and as a class agent, Bill agreed to join the Board of Trustees when the School announced its campus initiatives. “Jim Neill was a big factor in my decision to join the board,” he said. “I served with him on the board of my daughter’s school, and I am a big believer in his vision and his abilities. He gets things done, and this seemed like the right time for me to join.”

Bill and Kary are committed to giving back to the institutions that contributed to their family’s story. “Landon will always be special to me, particularly because of the lifelong friendships and connections I made. The men I graduated with are diverse in their talents, and I still see that as we recently celebrated my class’s thirtieth reunion,” he noted.

“We are at an inflection point. We don’t want Landon to just survive — we want it to thrive and compete in a growing and evolving environment. We want to look internally, not just keep up with the Joneses,” Bill continued. “At the core of it, I want someone to come to their thirtieth reunion down the road and have a similar opinion. To want to give back when they reflect on their experience.”

Bill and Kary made their gift to the campaign as an early initiative to inspire 100% board participation. Bill explained, “There is no wasted energy within the plan, and there is very strong leadership to shepherd it forward.”
