Our Leadership

Board Chair Alex Baldwin speaking at event

Dear Landon Community,

Landon today is firing on all cylinders. Our classrooms are full and our admissions pipeline is strong and competitive, with waiting lists in every entry year. The boys are thriving and continue to benefit from our outstanding teacher-coach-mentors. In addition, Landon’s financial health is excellent. We are living within our means and carefully stewarding Landon’s endowment, which has steadily grown to $24 million.

The beauty of our 75-acre campus is a hallmark of a Landon education; however, our facilities require serious attention and we need more academic space, particularly science labs and upgraded classrooms, as well as more common space for the boys to gather. For example, Landon currently has approximately 150 square feet of space per student, which is below the average of approximately 200 among peer schools in the DC metro area. I couldn’t be more excited about this Campus Master Plan, particularly how it will improve the boys’ educational experience and further enhance the already strong sense of community, all while making the most of what we already have in place and maintaining the character of Landon’s most iconic features.

We are so grateful to Katie and Todd Boehly '91 for the largest gift in the school's history, which will be used toward constructing a new Upper School, which will formally be named the Boehly Upper School in honor of their generosity. The Boehly's transformational contribution will expand facilities and help renew Landon's 75 acres as part of the strategic Campus Master Plan. I want to thank Todd and Katie Boehly for their extraordinary commitment to Landon and their faith in its future. Their generosity is an inspiration to all of us.

The Campaign for Landon will be a $50 million comprehensive campaign over five years, consisting of three parts:

  • $30 million in support of the Campus Master Plan,
  • $10 million to grow Landon’s endowment to ensure our long-term financial sustainability, and
  • $10 million to maintain annual giving in support of ongoing operations.

I also want to thank the Landon Board of Trustees for their outstanding commitment to this campaign. During the initial quiet phase of the campaign, the Landon Board of Trustees matched the Boehly’s gift – including 100% participation from the current trustees.

To date, we have already raised over $30 million during this initial quiet phase; which is fantastic. This is due in large part to the leadership and tireless efforts of Jim Neill and Peter Gallo, our Director of Development, as well as the three Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign:

  • The Honorable William Eacho, former trustee and class of ‘72,
  • Matt Coursen, former trustee and class of ’99, and
  • Laura Hoffman, current trustee and parent of three Bears, in classes 2017, 2021 and 2024.

This is a great start. However, we still have a lot of work left to do. Our goal is to raise another $20 million. I ask each of you to support this campaign as generously as you can. We need everyone’s help. We will be reaching out to all of you. And we would ask that you please take our calls when we do. If you have questions, please reach out directly to me, to Jim Neill, to Peter Gallo or any of the current trustees or Co-Chairs of the Capital Campaign.

Thank you very much for the generous support I know you will give to this critical effort.

Go Bears,

Alex Baldwin, P'18
Chair, Board of Trustees
